The familiar “00” capsule size is much older than it sounds. By 1877, pharmacist F. A. Hubel had standardised two-piece capsule moulds using the numbered size system that included 00, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, a naming convention that is still used for hard capsules today.

Some jobs are simply too small for an ordinary teaspoon.

The Micro Lab Spoon is a compact precision tool for handling, sampling and transferring small quantities of dry material where a full-sized spoon becomes awkward.

Its narrow profile makes it useful across a surprisingly wide range of tasks, from botanical powders and powdered incense ingredients to small-scale laboratory-style work, pigments, fine materials and narrow containers.

One particularly useful application is manual capsule filling.

The spoon end fits neatly inside standard size 00 capsule bodies, allowing powder to be transferred directly into the capsule rather than balanced above the opening. For occasional one-at-a-time filling, it offers a simple alternative when setting up a large capsule-filling machine would be unnecessary.

Its compact size can also make delicate powder work easier when fingers alone feel too large or imprecise for the job.
