Among 106 Plants, Bobinsana Was in the Top Three
Ethnobotanical fieldwork in the Chazuta Valley of Peru documented 122 traditional strict dietas involving 106 plant species, with Bobinsana among the three plants used most often.
These dietas formed part of a much wider cultural system of plant knowledge involving food restrictions and periods of seclusion. A first dieta could occur during adolescence as part of the transition towards adulthood, connecting Bobinsana not simply with traditional plant use, but with life stage, responsibility and knowledge carried between generations.
